Take this identity /2022

During the record breaking heatwave of 2022, when the UK experienced unprecedented heat, for the first time in recorded history the temperature exceeded 40 degrees centigrade. Walking through the forest near to where I live and grew up, I noticed that the ferns had been scorched, turning a vibrant orange, yellow and brown. The bracken fern often dies back in winter, but this was happening much earlier than usual- in September, due to the stress of the summer drought and searing heat. No meaningful rain had fallen in months and was taking its toll on the landscape. This project aims to portray the cover and shelter nature provides for us. As humans we are natural matter, not dissimilar to the bracken fern, struggling to survive as a result of man-made actions.
